On the 22nd of September there was an article about naked mole rats skin cells that contained additional gene compared with humans that was believed to give them the resistance agains cancer. Now, two more articles have been published on additional two methods.
The first one talks about transfering granulocytes from donor with higher resistance for cancer to patient. The phase I and II clinical trials have shown that this technique really boosts the patient's resistance too.
The second article talks about using stem cells to make a colon cancer vaccine and perhaps even universial cancer vaccine. Sadly the team has discovered that while natural human embryonic stem cells (hES) are able to provide a response, artificially induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) are not. This is significant as it challenges the theory that iPSC are the same as hES cells and may replace them at the forefront of stem cell research.
